Reshma Badhwar
Studio Pottery was founded by Reshma Badhwar in 1993, out of a single room below ground. Being at the forefront she started designing the work, building the distribution, and selling it across India and at trunk sales in London, Dubai and Hong Kong.
Each sale funded the next, until there was enough behind her to manufacture at volume.
Today Studio Pottery supplies India's leading design retailers, its most demanding wellness retreats and five-star hotels nationwide. The scale changed; the process didn't. Every range still begins with two to three months in the design room. Form first, glaze after, every piece food-grade and fired at 1290°C.
Thirty-three years on, the proposition hasn't moved: a table can be dined on as fine art.
Studio Pottery is a tableware house founded in 1993. It began in a basement with no route to market so we built one, exhibition by exhibition, city by city, shop by shop, until the work was travelling further than we were. Three decades on the catalogue is wider and the reach is national, but the way we earn a place at a table has not changed. We remain a fixture at India's leading design exhibitions, we supply pan-India, and we sell to the trade and directly into homes
Where we work
Three places, each doing something the others cannot. The craft was learned in Pondicherry, studied at source over years of returning. The ceramic is fired in Khurja, the town that has supplied India's kilns for generations, at the unit we manufacture with. The designs are drawn in Gurgaon, where the studio sits and where a range takes months rather than weeks to resolve. Nothing reaches us finished — we design what we sell, and we make what we design.
What we make
Three ranges: ceramic dinnerware and serveware, hand-finished wooden platters, boards and trays, and premium serving cutlery cut to hotel specification.
Made to be used
Everything we sell is food-grade, without exception. Our ceramic is microwave, oven and dishwasher safe — you can cook and bake in it. Our cutlery is dishwasher safe. Our wood is hand wash, as good wood should be. We hold that standard because these pieces are made for Indian kitchens and everyday tables, and for export markets that test to the same benchmark.
Who we work with
We supply both ways. Restaurants, five-star hotels and wellness retreats across India have bought from us in volume for two decades. Individual homes buy the same pieces, to the same specification. Nothing is downgraded for retail.
